Winter

Winter

Even with all this sun and warmth, there’s still something about winter that changes my mood from time to time.

Sumo citrus season reigns supreme

The urge to stay in and stay cozy won me over often. I took every opportunity to wear my comfy clothes, my fuzzy sweaters, to make tomato soup and slow cooker recipes and warm lattes instead of the iced variety I stick to in the summer. Winter temperatures don’t last long down here, but they are delicious compared to the polar vortexes I got used to in the Midwest. It’s the way winter should be, IMO.

I’m seriously considering switching most of coffee mugs for clear ones. I just love seeing the layers!

I joined a book club, which is something I would’ve done years ago but never really got around to it. We read When No One is Watching in February and it was more of a thriller than I expected. Now we’re on In Order to Live, an honest and heartbreaking account from a survivor that I can’t put down.

February was a whirlwind of stories, from Black History Month to environmental and health stories that, I hope, can inspire people to speak up and have conversations that lead to healing. I’ve learned new ways to look for inspiration, and to let my stories unfold in ways I might not expect. Now we’re gearing up for May and I’m already so excited for this next round of stories.

I added a new plant to the family. I don’t know what it’s called but it is every bit as dramatic as me. I love seeing the leaves rise and fall with just the slightest change of sunlight or water. I’m planning on getting herb plants next, so I always have fresh rosemary, thyme and basil on deck.

As we head into spring I’m looking forward to more sun, more brunches, more pool days and beach days, more sushi and baked goods, more peace and success.

And maybe, if I’m lucky, another round of dolphin spotting.

Cheers!
